Finally made it to Iceland

As someone who loves travelling and photography, Iceland has been on my list for awhile. When the restrictions surrounding covid and travel began to lift, Iceland was my first pick.

It’s challenging going to a place that’s been heavily photographed, and dare I say, instagrammed. Information and photos are at our fingertips, so easily found. Beautiful places are shared and oversaturate the internet, so you almost feel like you’ve seen a place before you’ve actually seen a place.

I worried about that a little with Iceland. It’s incredible landscapes fill our travel pages because they are jaw dropping. Would it be this amazing in person? The short answer is yes.

We booked two weeks for Iceland, naively thinking it would be tons of time to see most of the country (spoiler, it wasn’t). The first four days were spent hiking the Laugavegar trail, which turned out to be the highlight of the trip. Highly recommend this backcountry trip, the views and scenery were some of the best I’ve seen. So unique.

The rest of the trip was spent touring the country in a rented campervan with mountain bikes we brought from home. The biking was challenging at best. The wind and access to trails made it hard but we managed to find a couple nice rides. Luckily Iceland provides tons of other things to see and do.

My favourite area was the south. Vik, Westman Islands, and Skogafoss are just some of the gorgoeous places I loved. The animals we saw along the way were also high points. There were lots of places we missed because they were too far, and we had done a ton of driving already.

All in all, Iceland is spectacular. It lives up to the hype.
